Circle Sampler Beginning Embroidery

Ages 13 and up. Skill level -- beginner.
Learn basic embroidery stitches and make a sampler showcasing your new stitches!
Fabric, floss, needles, and snips will be provided. Participants need to bring (or buy at Craft Raccoon before class) a 5" or larger embroidery hoop.
What you'll learn: running stitch, threaded running stitch, whipped running stitch, back stitch, chain stitch, couching, blanket stitch, and French knots.

Beginning Drop Spindle

Join us for a class on how to make your own yarn using a spindle and wool from local sheep. This approach is ideal for beginners since the materials are economical and portable. Participants will be introduced to the properties of wool important for understanding the process of spinning. In addition, students will learn the key to drafting and spinning in order to make a single ply of yarn. Makers will leave this class with the knowledge to begin practicing and perfecting this new skill.
Supplies for use during the class will be provided, and students will have the option to purchase a drop spindle at the end of the class.

Introduction to Applique Techniques
Learn hand applique techniques for jazzing up clothing, pillows, quilts and more! Participants will get to try out three different applique techniques: raw edge, needle turn, and revese applique.
Audience: Adults, with skill level moderate (some experience with hand sewing would be helpful).

Learn how to knit and purl with provided knitting needles and yarn during two class sessions. Receive helpful guidance and hands-on teaching from Michele. Make your first project--a deceptively complex-looking washcloth--with the skills you learn in this class.

Intro to Linoleum Block Printing

Learn to carve linoleum blocks to print on paper and fabric! In this three hour workshop we will go over transfering a design onto your linoleum block, carving your design, and printing on both paper and fabric. You'll leave with some printed patches, a hand carved stamp, and your own set of carving tools to use in the future.

Scrappy Baby Quilt

Learn the fundamentals of quilting while making a scrappy, classic baby quilt in this five week class! This class will cover all of the steps of making a quilt, from quilt design and quilt math to piecing, basting, quilting and binding. Basic sewing experience (ability to thread your machine and sew unassisted) required.
Class Materials:
Students will need to bring 3 and a half yards of quilting cotton in total (6 to 10 different small pieces of quilting cotton for the quilt blocks, as well as 3/4 yard for the sashing, a yard for the backing, and a third yard of quilting cotton for the binding)
They will need one yard of batting, all purpose sewing thread, and 100 safety pins.
Other supplies and tools will be discussed in class.

Beginner Garments: Shirt No. 1

Ready to make your first garment? Join Tina as she walks you through the “Shirt No. 1” pattern from “100 Acts of Sewing”. Shirt No. 1 is a simple, loose-fit top with short sleeves. It’s a versatile piece available in sizes XS through 5X, and makes for a great first garment project!
During this class you will learn how to trace and cut a pattern, finish necklines with bias tape facing and how to use french-seams to keep raw edges hidden and neat.
This class is suitable for beginners, however, you should be familiar with using your machine and sewing straight lines.
Materials needed:
-“100 Acts of Sewing” Shirt No. 1 pattern
- 2 yards woven fabric (recommend a light weight cotton lawn/voile, linen, rayon or natural fiber blend)
- matching thread
- 25 inches of ¾” double-fold bias tape (*will be available at the store)

In this two session class you will be guided through the steps to create and customize your very own fish and walk away with a new bag and the pattern and power to make MORE. This class is a fantastic stash buster and is the most fun when playing with scraps. Bring your own or rummage through the supply at Craft Raccoon (photo example by dreamthiefstudio.com used scraps from the store!) Students should be comfortable reading and assembling a pattern with some guidance as well as comfortable on a sewing machine. Experience with bag making or zippers a plus.

Intro to Sewing: Get to Know Your Machine

Got a new sewing machine and not sure where to start? In this class we'll cover the basics of threading and using your sewing machine, as well as simple stitches and how to care for your machine.

Felted Beach Landscape
Join the fun while learning basic techniques of needle felting. Explore color and texture using wool roving (wool that is cleaned and carded but not spun into yarn) while creating a beach landscape.

Create your own unique sculpture in this 2-part class! We will use trash to create armatures, then cover them in plaster wrap.
